About the Program
In 2002, the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation partnered with the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech to create and implement the Commonwealth Youth Conference for Leadership Effectiveness (CYCLE) program to develop the leadership skills so desperately needed by today's teens.
CYCLE focuses on the basics of leadership. Upon completion of this program, the participants will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of their leadership potential.
- Identify leadership characteristics that are positive.
- Demonstrate a better understanding of self and how to relate to others.
- Demonstrate effective communication to support positive interactions.
- Demonstrate problem analysis skills to assist in decision-making.
- Understand the value of teamwork.
- Understand the individual's role in our communities.
Nearly 700 teens from throughout Virginia have completed this outstanding youth leadership program, at no cost to the teens and their families. However, raising funds for this program has been a challenge, and the current economic condition facing our state and nation has had an even greater negative impact on our ability to achieve new and expanded funding opportunities. Therefore, we have temporarily suspended future CYCLE sessions until we have raised the necessary funds in advance to run this leadership program. We are saddened by this action but these steps were based upon responsible fiscal considerations.
When the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation is able to provide this program again, notices will be sent to law enforcement agencies and School Resource Officers throughout the state.
Thank you for your interest and for your continued support!
