FIRST LINE SUPERVISORS TRAINING SCHOOL
October 30-November 1, 2012
This is a three-day training program conducted at various locations throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. This program is designed for individuals who have been recently promoted or are soon to be promoted to the position of first-line supervisors. During this program, basic supervisory concepts are presented with the objective of enabling each participant to identify, understand and apply some of the most critical components of supervision. The curriculum includes topics such as ethics, disciplinary process/internal affairs, effective communications, role & responsibility, legal responsibilities, employee evaluations & dealing with difficult employees, and employee recognition. Program agenda includes Legal and Career Development/Elective in-service credits.
Basic supervisory concepts will be presented that will serve as a foundation to enable each supervisor to identify some of the most critical components of supervision. In addition to classroom discussions, participants have an opportunity to network with other criminal-justice professionals during informal breaks and meals. The program is open to applicants from all public safety agencies, both in-state and out-of-state.

Program Information
This training will be held October 30-November 1, 2012, at the Homewood Suites Hotel in Henrico, Virginia. Classes begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and end at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The dress code for this training is business casual (collared shirts, no jeans, closed-toe shoes).
Who Should Attend
The program has been designed for those individuals newly appointed or soon to be promoted to supervisory positions, and is most applicable to individuals who have had little or no prior supervisory training. This program is designed to assist officers in their transition to their new role as supervisor. While policies relate to Virginia's laws and codes, out-of-state applicants are welcome to register for this course.
Certification
This program has been approved by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) for Partial In-service Credit. Pre-approved DCJS PIC-3 Forms and certificates of completion will be distributed at the close of the training. Participants must attend a minimum of 4 hours to be eligible to receive credit.
Program Fee
The program fee is $600 and includes lodging, program tuition, course materials and break services. Full buffet breakfast and light dinner are included with lodging. The program fee without lodging is $450.
Lodging
The program fee includes lodging for Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Homewood Suites Hotel in Henrico, Virginia. Lodging is single occupancy and arrangements are made by the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation. Full buffet breakfast and light dinner are included with lodging. Cancellation Policy
If cancellation is received before the deadline, you will be eligible for a partial refund, but assessed a $80 scheduling fee. No refund will be granted for any withdrawal notice received on after the deadline. No-shows to the training are not eligible for refunds. Qualified substitutions are gladly accepted with prior approval.
