PELS Alumni Association Annual Training
May 23-24, 2012 ~ Henrico, Virginia

The PELS Alumni Association will host the 2012 PELSAA Annual Training on May 23-24, 2012. This training session is open to all chief executives, managers, supervisors and law enforcement officers. You do not need to be a PELS or ILCT graduate to attend.
The first day of training will be held at the Homewood Suites Hotel in Glen Allen, VA, and the second day of training will be held at the University of Richmond Robins School of Business. DCJS in-service credit will be awarded for attendance at the training session, and pre-approved PIC-3 forms will be distributed at the close of training.

Muslim Culture

This block of training will focus on Muslim Culture. Topics addressed will include a brief history, cultural norms, how to best serve members of your community who practice the Muslim faith, and how to best serve members of your agency who practice the Muslim faith.
Budget Process-Best Practices
Chief (Ret) Henry Stanley
This block of training will focus on the budget process for law enforcement agencies. Topics addressed will include how to determine the actual dollar amount available to your agency; how to determine the needs of your agency; how to balance what you need vs. funding; and how to involve members of your agency in the budget process to improve morale.

University of Richmond Robins School of Business
Budget Forecasting

This class will be held in the computer lab located in the Robins School of Business and will be two-part training.
The first part of the training will focus on business budgeting. Learn the terminology, process, and best practices for building a business budget.
The second part of this training will focus on understanding and building a budget forecast for a LE agency. Bring your agency budget to enter into a prepared data sheet to build 12-month budget forecast. A copy of the database will be provided to each participant on a disk to take back to their agencies.
How the Supreme Court Exercises Leadership

This block of training will discuss the legal history of the authority and leadership exercised by the US Supreme Court.
Change Management
Nettie Meluch
Change Management is defined as a structured approach to transitioning individuals, teams and organizations to a desired future state. This block of training will focus on the organizational process aimed at helping people within your agency to accept and embrace changes within the organization.

Registration Fees
$275 for PELSAA members and $310 for non-members
The fee includes registration, lunch on Thursday and training materials. Lodging and transportation are not included.
Lodging
The PELSAA have secured a group rate of $83 plus tax at the Homewood Suites Hotel, Glen Allen, Virginia, for the night of May 23rd. All lodging is single occupancy. Full buffet breakfast and light dinner are included with lodging. To make lodging arrangements, please contact the Homewood Suites at (804) 217-8000 and ask for the PELSAA group rate.
Cancellation Policy
No refunds will be granted for any withdrawal notice received on or after May 1, 2012. If cancellation is received before May 1, 2012, you will be eligible for a partial refund, but will be assessed an $80 scheduling fee. No-shows are not eligible for refunds. Qualified substitutions are gladly accepted.
